Nikaya Teachings by Venerable Dhammavuddho

This is a collection of readings and discussions of the Nikayas (Collected Discourses of the Buddha) by Venerable Dhammavuddho Maha Thera over several vassas at Vihara Buddha Gotama (VBG), in Temoh, Perak. A vassa is a Buddhist rain retreat, typically observed by the Theravadan Buddhist monks. It usually falls in the month of July, and lasts for 3 months.

The Buddha often referred to his teachings as Dhamma-Vinaya.

The Dhamma is found in the Nikayas or the collections of his discourses. They are grouped into 5 Nikayas:

  1. Digha Nikayas - The collection of Long Discourses of the Buddha
  2. Majjhima Nikayas - The collection of the Middle Length Discourses of the Buddha
  3. Samyutta Nikayas - The collection of the Topical Discourses of the Buddha
  4. Anguttara Nikayas - The collection of the Numerical Discourses of the Buddha
  5. Khuddaka Nikayas - The collection of the Minor Discourses of the Buddha

The Vinaya is a collection of the Buddhist canon that contains rules and procedures governing the behaviours of the Buddhist monastic community (Sangha).

Venerable Dhammavuddho was a disciple of the Buddha Gotama, who vigorously promoted the wise investigation of the Buddha's teachings through his Dhamma-Vinaya.
